HOW IT WORKS

A peel is a chemical solution that encourages exfoliation at the cellular level, causing the surface of the skin to gently peel in order to reveal the fresh, glowing skin.

There are four grades of chemical peel: very superficial, superficial, medium, and deep. At Luxe Laser, we offer only the first two options: very superficial and superficial. These are called “lunchtime” peels, because they leave the skin red for just 20 minutes to an hour after the procedure, with mild peeling and flaking over the next few days.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A chemical peel involves an application of carefully administered skin-safe chemicals
which break down the existing keratin bonds in the skin, hence expediting the cell renewal process. When the dead skin exfoliates through this process, newer, clearer, smoother and more beautiful skin is forced forward, which in turn encourages the cell turnover of your skin. Peels are great for your skin in the immediate sense and stimulate and encourage better skin health down the road.

At Luxe, we offer a shallow depth peel only, often referred to as a “lunchtime peel”, meaning we are chemically exfoliating only to a superficial degree. While this approach is less invasive than medium or deep peels, it still accomplishes the goal of inspiring cell renewal, removing dead skin which dulls the overall complexion, and creation of a fabulous glow.

Not much! You’ll feel a warm, stinging “active” sensation which we closely monitor to ensure that your skin’s reaction is safe and on par with a normal skin response. This sensation neutralizes on its own. Discomfort during application is mild, fleeting, and usually very manageable.

Absolutely! A chemical peel offers an effective solution to eliminate the upper layer of dead skin which can trap bacteria and sebum, the recipe for acne. By reducing this congestion, we allow the skin a better opportunity to “breathe”, heal and renew. Cell turnover is increased, which means more efficient wound healing for any active pustules/papules present. Sometimes the skin will “purge” any impurities which will heal and is still a step in the right direction. Our Acne Peel Plus is designed specifically to address acne concerns and is both gentle and effective. Peels are also a great option to fade hyperpigmentation from old acne!

For the first few days after your peel, your skin may not look like anything has been done. About 3-4 days after the treatment, you will begin to notice tightness which results in peeling, especially around areas of expression like the mouth, forehead and around the eyes. After the tightness and flakiness subside, your skin will likely feel a little extra sensitive as the fresh, brand-new skin reveals itself. Active products may incur an unpleasant sensation and should be avoided until hypersensitivity subsides. From application to finish, this process concludes in about a week, however it’s worth noting that there is a nice grace period after application before peeling where you’ll look and feel normal.

They absolutely are! PCA Chemical Peels offer a gentle, yet effective solution to myriad skin concerns. Ask your Certified Advanced Esthetician what peel is best suited for your needs. The benefits of a chemical peel are progressive-immediately after your peeling and flaking subsides, you’ll notice an incredible glow, increase in evenness, softness, smoothness and plumpness. This response will mellow over time, which is why periodical peels are a great way to keep your skin looking and functioning optimally. Repeating the peel process incrementally continues to encourage skin toward your long-term goal, and a series of services are suggested especially for pigment issues, or textural concerns. In order to preserve your results, proper home care and prevention of further skin trauma and damage is imperative.

Clients may elect to receive a peel as frequently as 1x monthly or can plan to receive a peel seasonally for maintenance and upkeep. Generally, when we’re trying to accomplish a specific goal, like minimization of hyperpigmentation for example, we suggest treating more frequently to expedite your results.

We suggest waiting for the rest of the day before applying makeup, as additional ingredients in makeup and skincare may not mix well with the peel product. Afterward, makeup can be applied. As the skin peels, you may experience sensitivity to makeup, and as such you may consider sticking with a moisturizer to be re-applied throughout the day to keep the skin from feeling too dry. Sunscreen is a must throughout this process.
